I already have an 8mm craftsman so i was looking to extend my joint-genie joint making on thinner stock than the craftsman is designed for. I have no complaints about the quality or the usefulness of this tool, just some advice to would be purchasers. Throw away the turbo screws supplied. They don't fit properly anyway; sitting proud of the top edge and getting in the way of the drill stop. Instead i would replace them with some 6 guage 1 inch/25 mm twinthread chipboard screws. These sit flush with the upper surface - and you're good to go.
First class precise tool, makes dowell joints fit together. Once you get the setting up process, it pays to go to joint genie web site and watch the video.

Great dowelling tool for starting diy carpenter. Professional and easy to learn and use dowelling tool. Within 5 minutes after unpacking my first dowelling joints where made. I needed a jointing construction for making furniture in a campervan. So i wanted to construct everything as light as possible with maximum use of space. I used 12mm thick plywood wich is the width of the 6mm joint genie. The general advise i found on using dowels is that they should be 1/3 of the thickness of your wood. So i was a bit afraid the construction would't be strong enough. But with some quick drying wood glue the cabinets are as strong as i hoped. It takes some figuring out of where to dril the holes and how deep.
This really is a very clever and accurate dowel jig. Within hours of receipt i had assembled a frame that was destined for another form of jointing. I purchased the 6mm jig but forsee that i will have to have the 8mm or 10mm bar in my arsenal. The joint genie is not cheap but its quality and accuracy is of the highest order. Recommended wihout reservation.
